Weekend Fun

We had a fun weekend with my little sister Layni. She stayed with us while my dad and Leslie were enjoying a weekend at a spa. We were hoping to go to the pool, but it was a little too chilly and the water was too cold. We decided to go to Pullen Park instead. The girls had a lot of fun riding the carousal and train and playing on the equipment. Then we went out to dinner to Lonestar. Our meal was really good, however Emily was not. She just wanted to walk around the whole time. Somehow we managed and I think she even ate some food. Sunday at church Emily was still a little unruly and Andy spent most of the service out in the hall with her. She did well in nursery until she feel asleep. Emily never falls asleep outside her crib or carseat, however she just fell out while sitting on the leader's lap. Of course she woke right up when they brought her to Andy. She has been trying to keep up with Layni all weekend and I think that wore her out. She loved having Layni around and they were pretty good about sharing toys. As usual, they only wanted a toy when the other one picked it up. Here are some pictures from the park:

Today we went over the Boney's for a cook out. Simon and Emily played in the pool and then chased each other around the house. They are good buddies and love playing with each other.

In other news, Andy got called as the 2nd counselor in the Elder's Quorom presidency. The Elder's Quorom is a organization of men in our church. Their primary responsibility is take care of the the spiritual and physical needs of the members. Usually, there is a lot of work and time that goes into this assignment but Andy is willing, however he will miss working with the young men/scouts.

The Haircut!

Before picture is on the left (however it from 2 months ago, so it was even shaggier)
Sunday night, I finally broke Andy down and convinced him to cut Emily's hair. She really need the cut because her hair was getting really shaggy and in her face when it is not pulled back. In hindsight, maybe having him cutting her hair wasn't the best idea, but I was too nervous to do it myself and he cuts his own hair, so I thought he could do it. So I get her set up in the bathroom and he starts cutting, like crazy. He was cutting it all off before we even discussed the "plan of attack." I was freaking out.

However 2 days later, I am OK with the new cut, even though she looks like a boy. I still have to pull it back, but she has been letting me curl her pigtails and the back. Of course, I sure after the first burn that will be over. I am still traumatized from my sister burning my ears and neck.

Daddy's Girl

For the past few days, Emily has really been a daddy's girl. She only wants him to hold her and will push my hands away if I try to get her out of his arms. I have to pry her out of his hands as he leaves for work. On Friday we went to his branch to sign some papers to refinance our home. Then we bought some BBQ plates from a local church and had lunch in his office. Emily loved checking out his office and acting like she was the boss. She was strutting herself around the halls and carrying her purse that she won't leave the house without. Andy's coworkers got such a kick out of her.

Emily jumps up and runs to the door when Andy gets home. He usually takes her outside for a walk around the yard while I finish up dinner. I love these pictures of the Emily on Andy's shoulders. Andy has silly faces, but I think they are cute. She was laughing while poking his eyes out and then giving him sweet hugs. I am such a lucky girl to have these two in my life!

NKOTB

For those that don't know (and probably don't care) New Kids on the Block are getting back together for a renioun tour. Friday they performed on the Today Show and I will admit that I was a little too excited to watch them. However not as excited as Emily... she was jamming! She loves to dance and it was so funny seeing her dance to "Hangin' Tough." Poor Emily- the only music I ever play in the house or car is country and now I am forcing her to listen to New Kids. Don't worry I won't be taking her to their concert! (I don't think Andy would let me.)

Shawn and Evan

This week we had a fun visit with my best friend Shawn who was in town from Utah with her baby girl Evan. Shawn was in town visiting her family and we are so happy she drove up to see us. Evan is just 2 months old and is such a good baby. She did not cry one time while they were here. Emily LOVED the baby. She was very sweet to her and gave her such sweet kisses. She was very helpful and always bringing us all the baby's things, even when we didn't need them. I tried to put Emily down for a nap while they were here, but Emily wasn't having it and said "Baby" while we were back in her room. I don't think she wanted to go down and miss visiting with the baby. She happily went down for her nap once we waved goodbye. I love the picture below of Emily cuddling with Shawn and Evan. Emily doesn't usually go to other people but she was fine letting Shawn carry her while I was holding Evan.

Happy Mother's Day

I just wanted to tell my mom how much I love and appreciate her. She is such a great example to me. She gives so much of herself to others and often goes out of her way to help others. She loves her daughters and grandchildren so much and and it makes me so happy to see her and Emily develop a special relationship. Despite the attitude and difficult times I gave her during the teen years, she has always wanted me to be happy and has shown me so much love. She is a classy lady and means the world to me. And yes, we do talk every day. Love you Mom!

Jumping for Joy

Here is a cute video of Emily trying to jump. Obviously she isn't even getting off the ground, but it is still so cute.

Saturday night we went to a graduation party for one of my college roomies, Sarah. She received her PhD from UNC on Saturday and then had a fun fiesta celebrating her 8 years of hard work in grad school. Way to go, Sarah! It was great seeing you and Patrick and your family. You have come a long way from freshmen year where you once were found wondering around campus carrying a pillow and holding up your sweat pants that lost the drawstring and crying about Star Trek getting cancelled. Miss you Sarah... hope to see you again soon!

Random Pictures

We are all finally over the stomach bug illness - thank goodness, it has been a long 2 weeks. We haven't been up to much lately though. Emily and I have just been spending our days playing outside. Here are some pictures from the last few days. She was helping daddy work on the car....now insists on wearing her bathrobe after she gets out of the bath.... banging and pushing on the bathroom door while daddy was "busy".... and helping us plants some new plants.
